Okul öncesi dönemde teknoloji kullanımının dil ve genel gelişim alanlarına etkilerinin araştırılması: Ön bulgular

Abstract

Erken çocukluk dönemi, dil ve bilişsel gelişimin hızla gerçekleştiği kritik bir gelişim evresidir. Ancak dijital teknolojilerin yaygınlaşmasıyla birlikte okul öncesi çocukların da ekran süresi artmaktadır. Bu çalışma, okul öncesi dönemdeki ekran kullanım alışkanlıklarının çocukların gelişimlerine etkilerini araştırmak hedefli bir pilot çalışmadır. Bu kesitsel pilot çalışmanın evreni, aynı sosyo-ekonomik bölgedeki okul öncesi eğitim kurumlarına devam eden 36–60 ay yaş aralığında 30 sağlıklı çocuk ve anneleri olarak planlanmıştır. Gerekli izinler alındıktan sonra, çocukların demografik özellikleri, “Aile bilgi formu" ile, ekran kullanım alışkanlıkları ise “Teknolojik cihaz kullanım formu” ile değerlendirilmiştir. Gelişimsel durum “Ankara Gelişim Tarama Envanteri” (AGTE) ile, çocukların dil gelişimi ise “Türkçe Erken Dil Gelişimi Testi” (TEDİL) ile değerlendirilmiştir. Veriler, anne eşliğinde, yüz yüze uygulama ile toplanmış ve SPSS istatistik programında analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçları, ekran karşısında günde iki saat ve daha fazla zaman geçiren çocukların ifade edici söz dizim puanları ile genel gelişim puanlarının, yaşıtlarına göre daha düşük olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Teknolojik cihaz türleri incelendiğinde, özellikle kaba motor ve sosyal/öz bakım gelişimi ile akıllı telefon kullanımının daha güçlü bir negatif korelasyon gösterdiği belirlenmiştir. Televizyon izleme süresi, özellikle ifade edici dil performansında olmak üzere, sözel dil performansında önemli bir düşüşle ilişkili bulunmuştur. Hiç televizyon izlemeyen çocukların, günde iki saat izleyenlere göre ifade edici dil standart puan skorlarının 16,78 puan daha yüksek iken, bir ve iki saatlik izleme arasındaki fark 10,85 puandır. Çalışmamızda, kardeş sayısı ve anne yaşı arttıkça ekran kullanım süresi artmaktadır. Dijital çağda büyüyen çocuklarımızda teknoloji kullanım disiplini geliştirilmesi için, ebeveynlerin rol model olmaları ve ekran süresini günde bir saat ile sınırlandırmaları gerekmektedir.

Early childhood is a critical developmental stage where language and cognitive development occur rapidly. However, with the widespread use of digital technologies, screen time is also increasing for preschool children. This study is a pilot study aimed at investigating the effects of screen use habits in preschool children on their development. The population of this cross-sectional pilot study was planned as 30 healthy children aged 36–60 months attending preschools in the same socio-economic region and their mothers. After obtaining the necessary permissions, the demographic characteristics of the children were assessed with the "Family Information Form," and their screen use habits were assessed with the "Technological Device Use Form." Developmental status was assessed with the "Ankara Developmental Screening Inventory" (AGTE), and the children's language development was assessed with the "Turkish Early Language Development Test" (TEDİL). Data were collected face-to-face with the mothers present and analyzed using the SPSS statistical program. The research results revealed that children who spent two hours or more a day in front of screens had lower expressive syntax scores and overall developmental scores compared to their peers. When examining the types of technological devices, it was determined that smartphone use showed a stronger negative correlation, particularly with gross motor and social/self-care development. Television viewing time showed a significant correlation with a decrease in verbal language performance, but especially in expressive language performance. Children who did not watch television at all had expressive language standard score points 16.78 points higher than those who watched for two hours a day, while the difference between one and two-hour viewing was 10.85 points. In our study, screen time increased with the number of siblings and the mother's age. To develop technology use discipline in our children growing up in the digital age, parents need to be role models and limit screen time to one hour a day.
