Türkiye and Africa: Old friends, new alliances

Abstract

This study focuses on analyzing and providing an in-depth understanding of Türkiye's policies towards Africa. By exploring these policies' purpose, scope, effects, and limitations, the potential areas of improvement are aimed to be shed light on while their positive impact is highlighted. The study is divided into three sections. The first section delves into Türkiye's policies towards Africa from the establishment of the Republic of Türkiye until the end of the Cold War period, offering a historical perspective. The second section provides a comprehensive review of the relations and policies between 1998 and 2012, a period that witnessed an expansion of Türkiye Africa relations. The final section evaluates the developments between 2008 and 2023 in Türkiye-Africa relations, including establishing strategic partnerships.
